Dr. Amy Tan, MD MSc(Palliative Medicine) CCFP(PC) FCFP

I am an academic family and hospice palliative care physician. I have been a medical education and researcher too since beginning my practice in 2005. I have expertise in culturally-safe doctor-patient communication, advance care planning, shared decision-making. My research and writing has focussed on racism, equity in society, accessible primary palliative care and communication with patients and their loved ones. I am a passionate advocate in the realm of health equity and antiracism in healthcare.

I received a Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) Certificate of Merit award in 2016 for valuable medical education contribution. I was named one of Avenue Calgary Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2017 for my work in doctor-patient communication and primary palliative care. In 2020, I was named a Compelling Calgarian for my advocacy work in anti-racism and equitable safety policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been listed as one of Chatelaine Magazine’s Women In Science: 8 COVID-19 Experts You Should Follow On Social Media in April 2021.
